Emergency Shelter Program —
A Safe Haven in the Storm

The Gerard Academy Emergency Shelter Program provides short-term placements (2-3 days) for youth in need of emergency shelter when they cannot stay in their homes because of unsafe circumstances, unstable homes, or legal problems involving parents.

Youth Served: Boys and Girls, ages 6-18

Treatment Needs: Youth in crisis situations who need immediate, short-term (2-3 days) emergency shelter when they cannot remain at home.

Program Model/Services

  • Emergency short-term shelter for youth who cannot remain in their homes
  • 24/7 access to services
  • Shelter care referrals are screened to ensure safety for current Gerard Academy residents

Accreditation/Licensing

  • Accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Children and Family Services (COA)
  • Licensed by the Minnesota Department of Human Services
  • Licensed by the Minnesota Department of Health
  • New Dominion School accredited by by AdvancEd
  • Named NAMI's Provider of the Year for 2012
