The Gerard Academy Short-Term Program offers a different kind of residential option for boys and girls. This program provides an intensive intervention to help stabilize youth. Then focus is placed on skill-building and solutions that lead to success at home, school, and in the community.
Youth Served: Boys and girls, ages 8-18, with emotional or behavioral disorders, who have a permanency plan in place, an IQ of 80 or above, and exhibit a strong family engagement with the treatment process
Description: An intensive 90- to 120-day, solution-focused intervention for boys and girls, ages 8-18, with emotional/behavior disorders. The Short-Term Program focuses intensely on what a youth will need to be successful at home, following treatment. Strong family engagement with the treatment process is key to the program.
The program utilizes a collaborative process to identify, engage, and mobilize the child's family, school, and community as support networks. It opens a residential treatment option for youth who would not qualify for a longer length of stay.
Monthly case planning conferences with the family begin on the day of admission, and treatment includes weekly family and individual therapy while the youth is in treatment.
