Mille Lacs Academy (MLA) youth practiced the mission of strengthening lives, families, and communities by volunteering at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC)over the holidays.
Teams of MLA youth and staff made several trips to the Coon Rapids location to give back to those in need.
Feed My Starving Children is a Christian non-profit that provides nutritionally
complete meals specifically formulated for malnourished children, worldwide.
Year-to-date, MLA has sent ten groups of volunteers to FMSC to pack and box meals. The 278 MLA participants have packed a whopping 270,465 meals so far. That equals a total of $59,502 worth of food that will feed 741 malnourished children for an entire year!
Before each packing session, a brief video is shown outlining the roles and responsibilities of each volunteer and highlighting the areas and people that will benefit from the volunteers’ efforts. The majority of food packaged by MLA volunteers is directed toward Haiti. One youth noted that volunteering for FMSC made him feel like he “changed peoples lives.” Another youth said he felt “accomplished” after they finished packaging meals.
Mille Lacs Academy (MLA) consistently strives to change lives everyday through our mission and values. With this in mind, MLA youth and staff seek to be a force for good outside of the Academy by helping combat the struggle against regional, national, and global suffering.
